Using other transport
options
to
visit and return from Camden Town
Meeting up with friends in
Camden Town
Instead of meeting
people at Camden Town tube station, please see our Meeting places in
Camden page for easy to find, comfortable, safe places to meet up with
friends in Camden Town.
Visiting on
the weekend
Most of Camden's six markets are
now open all week. Rather than use Camden Town underground station on Saturdays
and Sundays when it gets crowded in the afternoons, please consider visiting on
Thursday or Friday instead.
Visiting
Camden's markets by tube
Not many people know this, but
there are three tube stations on the road with the markets on. Camden Town
station and Chalk Farm station are either side of the markets on the same
road.
Camden Town station gets crowded
on Saturdays and Sundays between 13:00 (1pm) - and 17:30 (5;30pm). It is
"way out only" between those times on Saturdays and Sundays, so people
can go out onto Camden High Street from Camden Town station then, but must use
another station, such as the ones below, or another way of travelling until
5:30pm.
The
best way to see the markets
if you are travelling by tube is to go there by Camden Town station,
see all of the markets and travel back home from Chalk Farm station on the other
side of the Stables market. You can't miss it because it is on the same
road at Camden Town station and all of the markets. That way you will see
all six markets and there are places you can sit down, eat and have a
drink.
If you
attempt to get back into Camden Town station during the Way Out Only period, you
will be sent all the way to the bottom of Camden High Street to Mornington
Crescent station. So Chalk Farm underground station is the second best
option.
Chalk Farm underground
station
Chalk Farm station
is on the same road as Camden Town station and on the other side of the last of
the markets, The Stables market. This is the second best tube station to
use and it is very easy to find.
Mornington Crescent
underground station
Mornington Crescent station is at
the other end of Camden High Street to Chalk Farm station, (which is a closer
option by far). If you attempt to go back into Camden Town station during
the Way Out Only period at weekends, you will be sent to Morninton Crescent
station, when you could have walked along the road to Chalk Farm station from
the markets more quickly. Do yourself a favour - use Chalk Farm station as
the second best option.
Kentish Town Road
underground station
This is the next nearest station
and it does not get crowded. However, it is not a straight walk away from
the markets, like Chalk Farm and Mornington Crescent stations, unless you walk
up Kentish Town Road from Camden Town station and it is an uphill walk.
Again, we suggest you use Chalk Farm station.
Camden Road rail
station
Camden Road rail
station is a few minutes walk straight along Camden Road, (not Camden High
Street).
Buses
Camden has has many buses passing
through. We suggest you call the Travel Information in on 020 222 1234 and
ask for your best bus options or see the Transport for London Journey
Planner. (As the Travel Information Line is open 24 hours a day, it is
a good idea to have the number on you. Say, in your mobile
phone.
The Waterbus service to
Camden Lock Market on the canal
This service makes
for a nice day out, stopping at places such as London Zoo. Information:
020 7482 2660 Bookings: 020 7482 2550 (If you go to London Zoo on the
Waterbus, admission to the zoo is free.)
Back Cabs
There is a black cab rank on Camden
High Street, just past the gents toilets.
Licensed mini
cabs
During the evening,
there are two mini cab firms just outside the station. One on Camden High
Street just next to the burger bar if you turn right up Camden High Street out
of the station. One next to the Half Way House pub on Kentish Town
Road. There are also cab firms with offices outside Chalk Farm and
Mornington Crescent stations.
